Dennis James Schettino, of Calabash, North Carolina, was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual battery for an alleged incident that was reported early on Easter Sunday at the Hampton Inn on Old Stage Road in Dumfries.
According to police, at around 9:30 a.m. on March 31, officers from the Prince William County Police Department were called to investigate when a girl under the age of 15 said that she was accosted in the elevator by an unknown man, later identified as Schettino.
It is alleged that the girl quickly was able to get out of the elevator and reported the incident to a family member, who contacted the police.
The investigation led detectives to identify Schettino as a suspect, and he was arrested in North Carolina on Thursday, April 11, where he will be held until he can be extradited to Prince William County.
Schettino remains behind bars pending his extradition to face the sexual battery charge in Virginia.
